In 2016 the residents of Lavender Bay proposed a long-term plan to convert, when no longer required for rail purposes, the train line between Lavender Bay and Waverton station into a landscaped corridor, the Sydney Harbour High Line (SHHL).
This proposal was supported by Local, State and Federal Government representatives. The SHHL will include gardens, a walking and bike riding trail and an operational rail line retained for use exclusively by heritage trains.
Wendy’s Secret Garden will form an integral component of the SHHL that will commence at the southern end of the Lavender Bay rail line, traverse along the northern shore of Lavender Bay, past Wendy’s Secret Garden, continue through the existing tunnel under McMahons Point past Sawmillers Reserve, Waverton Park both situated on the shores of Berrys Bay, to Waverton Station. Walkers and cyclists may then continue onto the Coal Loader and Balls Head.
The Sydney Harbour High Line will not only be an attraction for regular Sydney residents but will offer tourists to Sydney the opportunity of a unique harbour front walking trail along two of Sydney Harbour’s famous bays each steeped in maritime history.
